Whatcha got planned for the next 10 years?
Fo realz though. It was on my heart to remind you today of something- you can do ANYTHING in the next 10 years. Anything. I mean literally, ANYTHING.
In case I wasn’t clear… You can literally do anything In the next 10 years. Do you know that?
I remember hearing T.robbins saying ‘people underestimate what they can do in 10 years and over estimate what they can do in 1 year.’ Oooof. For my big dreamers, visionaries and crazy goal setters– PLEASE let this land.
I’ve been so fortunate to have 2 mentors who’ve been super big on the 10 year plan. Thank God, cos it’s changed the freaking game for this impatient, fast moving, frequently overwhelmed biddy over here.
The first time I was asked to do it by Lisa Nicholls, I felt so weird and like I was making it up- just throwing numbers, destinations, achievements down on the page. Then I realized this wasn’t a make believe fantasy exercise, it was legitimately, a ‘you can literally create anything in the next 10 years’ exercise.
I began with creating my 10 year plan, professionally and personally. Then I did 5 years. Then 3 years. Then 12 months. Then 90 days.
And here’s where shit got real. Here’s where I wanted to award this ’10 year plan’ thang, with a Nobel Peace prize.
I realized why’d i’d been so overwhelmed, and why I’d been so distracted, and why I felt like I was working so hard and not ‘achieving’ as much as I wanted to.
Ya ready? I realized I had been trying to fit my big huge 10 year vision inside of ONE YEAR (cue tony Robbins quote ^^ again).
When I drew it out as a 10 year plan, the vision became a plan. What I had to do in the next 12 months felt less scary, and more practical. I could see where everything fell together and I didn’t feel ‘discouraged’ by taking things a little slower to get it RIGHT. I felt spacious, I felt clear, I felt focused and here’s something I’ve never felt before…. I felt patient (gasp!!)
Homie, you can do ANYTHING in the next 10 years, but you can’t do everything. Millennials are so incredibly driven, ambitious and capable, but we’re also impatient. If you’re trying to cram too much in and feeling overwhelmed by your big beautiful visions and goals…. PUHLEASE do the 10 year plan.
This photo was from the last day of our honeymoon…Erik and I re-did our 10 year plans individually and together. I’m now officially obsessed with it. X
